VietNamNet Bridge – At 1.30pm on November 29, more than 200 police officers stormed a motel in Dinh Bang Ward, Tu Son Town, Bac Ninh Province. They caught more than 100 gamblers in the act and seized several billion dong.




After more than a half an hour siege, the police controlled the gambling den’s guards, broke the glass door in the first floor and rushed to the fourth floor to catch in the act, over 100 people who were playing xoc dia (game in which gamblers shake coins in a bowl). These people were brought to the police headquarters, including the motel owner and his son.

The raid was directly commanded by Colonel Ho Si Tien, Director of the Criminal Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security.

Colonel Tien said this is the biggest gambling den in Northern Vietnam, led by Duong Anh Duc, 48, a resident of Tu Son Town, Bac Ninh Province. Duc and more than 100 people were detained, including many women.

This ring was organized and operated sophisticatedly, attracting gamblers from many northern provinces like Hanoi, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, etc.

Gamblers usually grouped up at a parking lot before they were transported to the gambling house, which was changed very often. Even gamblers did not know where they would be taken to gamble.

Each day, the gambler will be taken to different places to "look fine." Locations are changed every day.

Local people said this gambling den had existed for decades.

Police seized two sacks of evidence consisting of cash, cell phones, wallet, computers, etc. It is initially reported that the cash is up to several billion dong (hundreds of USD).

To break this gambling den, the police had to track for over a month.
