The Criminal Investigation Agency of Quang Nam Provincial Police has officially prosecuted and detained a woman from Ha Lam Town (Quang Nam) for murdering her son in order to fraudulently claim life insurance benefits.

On the evening of April 5, Quang Nam Police announced that they had served decisions to prosecute and temporarily detain the woman from Ha Lam Town for the act of murdering her child to profit from a life insurance policy.

Previously, following directives from the Ministry of Public Security to enhance the effectiveness of managing and resolving temporarily suspended criminal cases, Major General Nguyen Huu Hop, Director of Quang Nam Provincial Police, instructed the Criminal Investigation Agency to review and examine all related cases.

From this review, authorities re-investigated a fatal incident that occurred on January 2, 2023, and identified the perpetrator as To Thi Ty Na (born 1981), residing in Area 3, Ha Lam Town, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province.

Investigation results revealed that around 10:00 p.m. on January 2, at Na's home, her biological son, Nguyen Van H. (born 2017), was found dead in the bathroom.

Based on the evidence collected, investigators concluded that Na had intentionally killed her son in order to obtain life insurance benefits.

As a result, on the evening of April 5, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Quang Nam Police served the decisions to prosecute and detain To Thi Ty Na on charges of murder. The case remains under active investigation.
