Thanh hit a 103kg snatch, claiming the medal in the women's 71kg class. She also lifted 127kg in the clean and jerk after three attempts. In total, her combined lift of 230kg took Thanh to fifth position in the tally.
Thanh’s bronze medal helped the Vietnamese weightlifting team earn accumulated points as they compete for a berth to the Paris Olympics 2024.
Liao Guifang of China topped the women's 71kg class after lifting a total of 268kg.
Earlier, Vietnamese weightlifter Do Tu Tung won two gold medals in the men’s 55kg class with 147kg in the clean and jerk to achieve a total of 263kg.
In the same men’s 55kg class, his teammate Ngo Son Dinh bagged three silver medals with 117kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk to have a total of 260kg.
The 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships opened in Jinju of South Gyeongsang province in the RoK on May 5, attracting 251 weightlifters from 35 countries and territories globally. The event is scheduled to close on May 13.
