Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, has announced plans to introduce pilot mechanisms to enable pharmaceutical companies to apply digital technology.
The announcement was made during the panel discussion "Vietnamese Pharmaceuticals in the Digital Era – A Future of Innovation and Technology" on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Driving digital transformation in pharmaceuticals
The event brought together representatives from leading pharmaceutical corporations such as AstraZeneca, Roche, Sanofi, Novartis, MSD, Pfizer, Merck, and Sumitomo.
These companies expressed enthusiasm about Vietnam’s strong commitment to fostering technological advancements under Resolution 57, which outlines the nation’s goals for innovation and technological integration.
According to Burak Pekmezci, a representative of Pharma Group, the pharmaceutical industry plays a critical role in achieving the objectives of Resolution 57.
He added that Pharma Group is ready to share global models, expertise, and experiences in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in healthcare. They also plan to contribute recommendations for improving Vietnam’s legal framework to realize the resolution's ambitious goals.
AI and innovation in healthcare
Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, emphasized that the pharmaceutical industry is among the most promising sectors for AI applications, particularly in vaccine and drug development.
“With 10 years of experience in AI research and collaboration with leading organizations and experts, we’ve witnessed how AI generates innovative ideas across various domains,” Binh stated.
Nguyen Van Nen highlighted the critical role of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI) and data, in improving human health and quality of life.
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s willingness to collaborate with businesses to harness cutting-edge technology for the benefit of public health.
“Ho Chi Minh City will implement pilot mechanisms to allow pharmaceutical companies to transparently test their proposals and scale up successful initiatives nationwide,” he said.
This pilot program reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s commitment to becoming a leader in innovation and digital transformation in the healthcare sector, aligning with Vietnam’s broader goals for technological advancement.
