The second half of the year is the busiest period of the smartphone market when manufacturers, one after another, launch their new products.
Samsung introduced its flagship Galaxy Note 9 in early August, while Sony Xperia XZ3 was introduced at IFA 2018, and iPhone 2018 is expected to come out in mid-September.
The launch of new smartphone models have led to the sharp price decrease of the models marketed in late 2017 and early 2018.
Large retail distribution chains throughout the country have cut the retail prices of the models released in 2017, including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X by VND2-4 million.
Genuine iPhone X 64 GB is now selling at VND25.99 million, or VND4 million lower than the price quoted before. Meanwhile, the 256 GB version has seen the price drop by VND2 million to VND32.79 million. |
Genuine iPhone X 64 GB is now selling at VND25.99 million, or VND4 million lower than the price quoted before. Meanwhile, the 256 GB version has seen the price drop by VND2 million to VND32.79 million.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus saw prices decrease by VND1.5-2 million for the versions with different memories. In addition, buyers can enjoy another discount (nearly VND1 million) when buying online or making payment with credit cards.
Older models such as iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have also seen the prices decrease slightly by VND500,000-1 million. Small private shops may offer lower prices.
The price decreases are paving the way for the launch of the new iPhone.
Doanh Van Hieu Em from The Gioi Di Dong, the largest mobile phone distribution chain in Vietnam, said it is now the low sale season of iPhone.
“Retail chains have to run a lot of sale promotion campaigns, offering big price discounts for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to lure customers,” he said.
“The market is awaiting new iPhone and this has affected the sales of iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plux,” said Nguyen Bich Hanh from FPT Shop, also a large distribution chain.
Besides iPhone, Android smartphone models of Samsung and Huawei are also seeing prices falling sharply.
According to Hanh, Samsung’s models are getting cheaper mostly because of the launch of Galaxy Note 9.
Huawei slashed P20 Pro price to pave the way for Huawei 20 Pro to make its debut in November.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have seen prices decrease by VND3.5 million to VND16.49 million and VND19.99 million, and Huawei P20 Pro by VND3 million to VND16.99 million.
