VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Health on Monday requested health departments in the provinces affected by Typhoon Usagi to ensure clean water supplies and prevent disease outbreaks.

In a letter to health departments in the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Ba Ria–Vung Tau, the ministry instructed the departments to monitor sanitation and garbage management in their areas.

Health officials were requested to provide local residents a steady supply of disinfectants for water treatment such as Chloramine B and Aquatabs. 

They were also asked to instruct local residents how to dispose of dead cattle and how to clean wells and water tanks affected by the floods, the ministry said.

The ministry also requested local authorities to monitor the quality of water provided for domestic use from local water supply stations, and to perform water quality inspections.

Typhoon Usagi lashed the south-central and south-eastern regions with heavy rains and strong winds on Sunday before weakening to a tropical depression on Monday.
