Tien said this is regrettable and rare incident, which is extremely serious and the inspection and verification by the Ministry of Health could not clarify the cause.
"The Ministry of Health realizes the need to investigate the cause independently, objectively to identify the right people and the right thing that caused the incident, to avoid shielding that can stir bad rumors," said Minister Tien in her official letter to the Ministry of Public Security.
Accordingly, for the health of the people, the Ministry of Health asked the Minister of Public Security to direct relevant agencies to conduct investigations to verify the cause as soon as possible.
On July 20, three infants at the hospital of Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province, died only ten minutes after being vaccinated with hepatitis B vaccine.
The Ministry of Health sent a mission to Quang Tri to work in collaboration with the Department of Health, the police of Quang Tri and related entities to verify the reason. Based on the field test and autopsy results of the police, the Ministry of Health preliminary concluded that the death was caused by anaphylaxis after vaccination, without clear reasons.
On July 26, the Minister of Health recommended to suspend individuals involved in the case. On July 27, a doctor and a nurse who were directly related in the incident were suspended from work to serve investigation.
