Under the plan, garbage and debris along the 6.2-kilometer stretch of the river from the intersection of Kenh Te to Saigon Bridge in districts 4 and 1 will be collected every two days.

The HCMC Department of Transport and other relevant agencies are tasked with carrying out this initiative from now until the end of the year.

Workers will utilize boats equipped with conveyor belts and excavators to gather floating debris and garbage. Subsequently, the garbage will be transferred onto barges and towed to a temporary gathering area on Pham The Hien Street in District 8. From there, vehicles will transport the garbage to the centralized processing area in Da Phuoc in Binh Chanh District.

It is estimated that around 1,800 tons of garbage will be collected between now and the end of 2023.

The section of the Saigon River from the intersection of Kenh Te to Saigon Bridge is surrounded by several renowned landmarks such as the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Nha Rong Wharf, Bach Dang Park, and Ba Son Bridge.

In October 2020, a similar garbage collection system was piloted on the Vam Thuat-Ben Cat Canal in Go Vap District, which yielded positive results.
