The projects are managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Transportation Construction Investment Management Authority (HCMC Traffic Management Authority).
Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass
The HC1 underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection, connecting Binh Chanh District with District 7, is almost 100% complete.
The project team is currently finalizing road surface restoration and is on track to open the entire intersection to traffic by December 30.
This intersection connects District 7 with Nha Be and Binh Chanh districts. It has long been a critical congestion point and a high-accident area due to heavy traffic flow.
Initiated in April 2020, the first phase of the project was allocated a budget of VND 830 billion (approximately USD 34 million). However, its original June 2022 completion date was delayed due to challenges in construction amidst heavy traffic.
The design features a central roundabout with a diameter of 60 meters and two underpasses beneath Nguyen Van Linh Street. Each underpass stretches approximately 480 meters, including approach roads and the main tunnel.
The first underpass, facilitating traffic from District 7 to Binh Chanh, was opened on October 4.
Phuoc Long Bridge
The Phuoc Long Bridge, linking Nha Be District with District 7, commenced construction in February 2020 with an initial budget of VND 398 billion (approximately USD 16.3 million). However, construction was delayed due to land acquisition issues.
In July 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council approved an increased budget of VND 748 billion (approximately USD 30.6 million), primarily for compensation, land clearance, and relocating technical infrastructure.
The bridge spans 380 meters with a width of 10.5 meters, accompanied by 120-meter-long approach roads on both ends. It is expected to alleviate pressure on the Phu Xuan 2 Bridge on Huynh Tan Phat Street and address congestion hotspots in District 7 and Nha Be District.
After completion, travel time between Nha Be District and District 7 will be reduced to just two minutes.
National Highway 50 expansion
National Highway 50 is a vital route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with provinces in the Mekong Delta, such as Long An, Tien Giang, and Ben Tre.
The highway’s expansion began in late 2022 with a budget of nearly VND 1,500 billion (approximately USD 61.3 million).
The 6.92-kilometer project starts at Nguyen Van Linh Street and ends at the Long An provincial border. The road’s cross-section is expanded to 34 meters, accommodating six lanes, with added features including drainage systems, sidewalks, greenery, lighting, and utility corridors.
Of the total length, 4.36 kilometers is newly constructed, while 2.56 kilometers involves widening the existing highway.
The first 2 kilometers of the route, connecting Trinh Quang Nghi Street with the existing National Highway 50, will open in the initial phase.
The remaining sections are nearly complete but face delays due to unresolved land acquisition issues. Full completion is expected in early 2025.
