VietNamNet Bridge - On November 12, the Vu Anh International Hospital in HCM City performed a successful surgery to remove a big tumor from the mediastinal heart of a 19-year-old girl.

The patient is Doan Thi Thanh H, from Ho Chi Minh City. Around two weeks ago, the patient felt pain in her left dorsal chest and shortness of breath when lying on her right side.

After an X-ray scan on her chest, doctors found a large tumor in the left lung. The patient was assigned to take an MSCT scan on her chest, which identified a teratoma in the mediastinum, right next to the heart and the major blood vessel.

Dr. Luong Tu Hai Thanh, Deputy Director of the hospital led a surgical team to carry out a surgery to cut the tumor.

The tumor stuck on membrane heart, diaphragm nervous, aorta, under vein, upper lobe of left lung so the surgery was performed very meticulously. If the surgeon is not very experienced it may be dangerous to the life of the patient.

After 2 hours and 30 minutes, the surgery came with success. The tumor was removed neatly, sizing 15x10 cm, weighing 700g. The operation did not cause bleeding. The patient’s health was stable during the whole surgery.
