Tam gave the information at a press conference on Covid-19 prevention and control on Thursday.

HCM City has informed the Ministry of Health of the situation and is seeking ministerial approval to transfer 13,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the city. This will be used for local children.

The city also previously asked Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute to allocate additional 23,000 doses of vaccine Pfizer to use for children aged between 5 and 12.

Over the past month, the supply of vaccine Moderna for the city has been suspended, so 116,000 children have yet to have been given their second shot.

Only around 34.6 percent of HCM City’s children aged between 12 and 17 had received their third jab by September 26, lower than the average 57.9 percent across the nation.

Meanwhile, the city's second shot Covid-19 vaccination rate among children aged from 5 and 11 was 34.9 percent compared to 60.9 percent nationwide.
