The demand has been rising consistently since May last year, Tran Anh Tuan, the department's deputy director, said.

The demand for ERP programmers, web designers, testers, and graphic designers was up almost 55 per cent compared to a year ago, he said.

There was also high demand for personnel in sales, services, and marketing fields, he added.

There were 5,894 people applying for jobs, almost 20 per cent down from December, according to the centre.

The largest number was in accounting.

The centre forecast employers to have around 20,000 vacancies in February.

Manual workers will account for 35 per cent of the jobs, with the rest shared between applicants with diplomas, bachelor's and master's degrees from vocational schools, colleges, and universities.

The demand in the textile, footwear, food processing, construction, finance and securities, and real estate sectors is forecast to surge by 30 per cent from January.

Companies based in industrial parks and export processing zones said they are likely to need nearly 5,000 workers after Tet, mostly in the electronics and textiles industries, reported Sai Gon Times Daily.

The demand was similar a year earlier.
