More than 1 million students from primary to high schools in Ho Chi Minh City officially entered the new school year on August 20.

Meanwhile, local kindergartens will join schools nationwide on the official opening day of the new school year – September 5.

The southern city has more than 1.67 million students in the 2018 – 2019 academic year, rising about 67,200 from last year.

Primary-level school enrollments record the biggest increase of over 26,800 while pre-school education has some 20,200 new children.

The municipal Department of Education and Training said this year, HCM City aims to continue upgrading local schools’ infrastructure and technological equipment so as to improve teaching and learning quality.

The 2018 – 2019 school year is scheduled to last through May 2019.
