VietNamNet Bridge - The Ho Chi Minh City government has decided to make full restitution for the damage to 32 businesses in the recent riots.

The Management Board of HCM City Export Processing Zones on Friday reported that there were 32 firms in the city’s IZs affected by the disturbances in mid-May. Total losses were estimated at VND3.9 billion (nearly $200,000). These enterprises are mainly located in Linh Trung EPZs 1 and 2 and Binh Chieu Industrial Zone in Thu Duc District.
In addition, 124 businesses that were concerned about the disturbances furloughed their workers for three days. As a result, a number of them had to pay compensation to clients for broken contracts.
HCMC Chairman Le Hoang Quan said the city had decided to allocate VND3.9 billion from the budget to support these businesses. At the same time, the city has set up a working group to study the situation to understand the difficulties of the affected firms and help them overcome their difficulties as quickly as possible.
The city will also have support policies for workers of these firms.
Major General Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Agency, said the police would keep track of the situation to maintain security and safety in the IZs.
