Le Duy Minh, deputy director of department, said, “By sealing the pumps, we can see whether or not the amount of fuel sold matches the amount bought.”
Nguyen Thanh Phuong, deputy director of the Department of Standards Metrology and Quality, said the seals only work on mechanical and electrical meters since digital meters can be tampered with remotely.
It is meant to prevent tax fraud and supply of fuel from unauthorised sources to increase the city’s revenues, protect customers and ensure fair competition.
Petrol stations are notified before taxation officials arrive for carrying out the task. The sealing takes just a minute and involves no financial costs for the petrol stations.
