VietNamNet Bridge - For more than 23 years of fighting for his own justice, on July 15, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung was publicly apologized to by the Head of the People’s Procuracy of Hau Giang province – Mr. Nguyen Dong Khoi.

A meeting was held on the morning of July 15 in Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province, where Mr. Nguyen Dong Khoi publicly offered an apology to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, 61, a resident of Vi Thanh City.

Trung was prosecuted and imprisoned from 1988 and until 2011 he was vindicated.

"The procuracy agency of Vi Thanh city made unlawful execution, leading to wrongful conviction for a long time for Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung. We sincerely apologize Mr. Trung personally and his family," Khoi said.

Trung was suddenly being arrested and detained for acts of intentionally violating state regulations on economic management and causing serious consequences when he was the vice chief of the Agriculture Department of Vi Thanh district in 1988.

Trung was detained for three months and was on parole since then. Until 2011 he got justice done.

Trung asked the People’s Procuracy of Vi Thanh City to pay compensation of over VND1.6 billion ($80,000) for physical and mental damage as well as wage losses during 23 years.

However, the procuracy agency promised to compensate Trung with VND416 million ($20,000).
