On January 21, the Government Office issued a telegram conveying the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on proposals made by cinema operators in Hanoi.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Ministry of Health and other agencies to consider the reopening of cinemas nationwide, ensuring consistency and suitability with the Covid-19 situation in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, content director of CGV, said that this firm is waiting for an official decision from the authorities to open its cinemas.

"We are looking forward day by day to open the cinema system before the Lunar New Year in Hanoi and many other provinces. If cinemas reopen across the country, this will be a happy Tet film season, which is memorable for cinema operators, film producers, and the audiences," he said.

Mr. Doan Thach Cuong, sales director of Lotte Cinema, said the cinema system is now fully prepared in terms of facilities and the number of films for the reopening in Hanoi.

On January 12, a number of businesses operating in the cinema and movie industry in Hanoi sent a document to the Prime Minister proposing to reopen cinemas in Hanoi in the new context.

In Ho Chi Minh City, cinemas reopened on November 19, 2021.
