The Spring Book Street programme is opened in Hanoi on February 7

In the Spring Book Street programme, bookstores will organise exchanges with visitors, introduce new books and offer lucky money to their readers.

Visitors will have a chance to join talks with authors and experts about books, the reading habit and calligraphy. They can also enjoy performances of traditional arts or take part in folk games.

Notably, artists from the Hanoi cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera) and drama theatres will help the audience learn about the capital city’s history through many extracts.

Performances of traditional musical genres like the van, xam and tru singing will form part of the programme, which also features calligraphy, xiangqi chess and sandpainting competitions.

The Spring Book Street programme aims to help turn the street into a cultural destination in Hanoi and promote the reading habit in the community.

The event, organised by the municipal Department of Information and Communications and the Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee, will last through February 14.-VNA
