Hanoi University in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam on May 25 organised the qualifying round of the 17th “Chinese Bridge” - the annual Chinese proficiency contest - for students of universities and colleagues in northern provinces and cities.

Vice Rector of the Hanoi University Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong said the contest offers a good chance for students studying Chinese language, culture and literature from Vietnam’s universities to show their Chinese-language skills as well as their knowledge about the country. 

It is also a venue for Chinese lecturers and students to join exchanges and share experience in teasing and studying the language, she added. 

The qualifier saw the competition of 12 candidates from ten universities and institutes in the north, who had to present their rhetoric ability in Chinese and their knowledge about China’s people and culture.

They also showed off their talents in singing, dancing, martial arts, playing musical instruments, and performing plays.

Student Le Anh Duc of the Hanoi University won the first prize. Duc and the winner in the qualifying round for the southern region will compete in the final round of the international contest in China in mid 2018.

Hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in China, the “Chinese Bridge” competition is one of the most significant platforms for colleges students across the world to study Chinese language.-VNA
