Architectural proposal for the location of Km0 milestone at Ly Thai To flower garden.

The Ly Thai To flower garden, located in Trqng Ti3n Ward, spans more than 10,000 square meters and is bordered by key streets such as Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thach, Le Lai, and Ngo Quyen.

The garden plays a crucial role in connecting Hoan Kiem Lake with nearby areas, including the Dien Hong flower garden and the State Bank Square.

The garden is situated near the Ly Thai To statue, an important landmark linked to Hanoi’s political and administrative center. The project aims to preserve the historical value of nearby architectural structures, including the Government Guesthouse and the Metropole Hotel, while integrating modern urban development.

In 2018, the Hoan Kiem District collaborated with the Vietnam Fine Arts Association to begin researching the construction of the Km0 milestone. In early June 2020, a design competition was launched, and the winning concept, "Light Gate," was created by a team of professors from Hanoi University of Architecture.

The design was praised for its creativity, simplicity, feasibility, and sustainable materials, ensuring it would not disrupt the space around the Ly Thai To statue.

Following the competition, the Hoan Kiem District held an exhibition and solicited public feedback on the winning design and other finalist proposals.

It has been confirmed that the Km0 milestone will be placed in front of the Ly Thai To statue, becoming an iconic landmark that symbolizes the center of Hanoi’s urban landscape.
