VietNamNet Bridge - To concretize the Law of the Capital City, at its 7th session on July 1-8, the Hanoi People’s Council will decide the list of the construction works for conservation.

The council will approve the list of the ancient streets, craft villages, old mansions and buildings built before 1954 that must be preserved.

The Hanoi People's Committee has proposed ten works that were built before 1954 for preservation, including: the Presidential Palace, the Government Guest House, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the building of the Hanoi People's Court, the Hanoi Opera House, Hospital K, the History Museum, Chu Van An High School, the Hanoi University and Hang Dau Water Tower.

The Hanoi authorities have also named 18 old streets, 157 old villas, the ancient village of Duong Lam, the five craft villages of Van Phuc silk, Bat Trang pottery, Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan, Quat Dong embroidery and Son Dong handicraft in the list.

The Hanoi People’s Council began its seventh session on July 1 to discuss many issues including conducting a vote of confidence for 18 positions elected by the council.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Ngo Thi Doan Thanh said the session will consider 11 issues related to the institutionalization of the Law on Capital City.

In her speech, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan stressed that conducting a vote of confidence for 18 positions elected by the People’s Council is an important task. It should be carried out in an objective, transparent and constructive manner, she added.

Regarding the city’s socio-economic development in the first six months of the year, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu said despite economic difficulties, the city’s production and trade posted a fair growth rate, but it is still lower than expected.

The city’s GDP increased by 7.6 percent during the period, below the target of 8.0-8.5 percent level, while the budget collection was also lower than last year’s level.

Suu put this down to the slow recovery of the global and national economies and the weaknesses in the management and cooperation between relevant branches. In the coming time, the city’s branches and businesses should joint efforts to support the market, and iron out snags in operation, he said.
