Hanoi is set to move forward with an ambitious plan to expand public space around Hoan Kiem Lake, transforming its eastern area into a special park and plaza.

To support this initiative, city authorities have pledged to provide the highest possible compensation for residents and organizations affected by the project.

According to a recent announcement by the Hanoi People’s Committee, the project will focus on preserving historical and architectural landmarks, including French-era buildings such as the Department of Culture and Sports and the Institute of Literature.

The redevelopment plan also includes the construction of a three-level underground space, which will connect with the C9 station of the Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao metro line.

City officials are prioritizing public consultations to gather input from local communities before finalizing the project’s design.

The expansion will require relocating several institutions, including the Department of Culture and Sports, the Institute of Literature under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Hanoi Population Department, and the Hanoi Association for the Blind.

The Hanoi Department of Construction has been tasked with identifying suitable locations for these offices to ensure a smooth transition.

For affected residents, the city is preparing a major resettlement area in Dong Anh District, covering approximately 100 hectares. City officials have emphasized their commitment to offering the highest compensation rates and ensuring that resettled individuals receive appropriate housing and support.

Several major enterprises will also be relocated to the Cau Giay New Urban Area, including the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Northern Power Corporation, the Hanoi Power Corporation, and the Electricity Hotel.

Additionally, the Hanoi Citizen Reception Office will be moved to a new location that offers greater space and accessibility for public services.

As part of Hanoi’s long-term urban development strategy, the expansion of Hoan Kiem Lake is expected to enhance public spaces, preserve cultural heritage, and improve the city’s overall infrastructure.

Authorities have assured that careful planning and a strong commitment to fair compensation will ensure that the project benefits both local residents and the broader community.
