VietNamNet Bridge - Numerous ancient trees of over 2m in diameter will be chopped down for the construction of an urban railway from Nhon to the Hanoi Railway Station, said an official of the Hanoi urban rail project management unit.
More than 30 ancient trees on Kim Ma Road, Ba Dinh District, will be cut down.
The unit’s vice director, Mr. Le Huy Hoang, said more than 30 ancient trees on Kim Ma Road, Ba Dinh District, will be cut down. "The city considered very carefully before deciding to chop down the trees,” Hoang said.
In addition, a flyover will be removed or demolished.
Within one year, Hanoi will have removed three flyovers to build other transport works. These flyovers have been used in a short period of time and they cost hundreds of thousands of USD.
The urban railway No.3, the section between Nhon and the Hanoi Railway Station is approximately 12.5km long, including 8.5km elevated and 4 km underground rail and with 12 stations. The project has a total investment of 1.18 billion. It kicked off in September 2010 and is scheduled for completion in November 2018.
In late July, dozens of ancient trees in front of the HCM City Theatre were also chopped down for the construction of a subway station.
