Under the plan, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 519, Hanoi would build 10 more bridges, raising the total number of bridges in the capital city to 17. The seven existing bridges include Long Bien, Chuong Duong, Thanh Tri, Vinh Tuy, Thang Long, Nhat Tan and Vinh Thinh.
According to the Hanoi Transport Work Investment Management Board, in the medium-term public investment plan in 2021-2025, the city plans to build Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2, Thuong Cat, Van Phuc, Hong Ha and Me So bridges.
Of these, the construction of Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2 began on January 9, 2021 with total investment capital of VND2.5 trillion. It is expected that the bridge would be completed in 2023.
The Hanoi Transport Department has prepared a pre-feasibility study for the construction of Thuong Cat Bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge. The study needs appraisal from the Planning and Investment Department. The total investment capital of the project is VND9.4 trillion. The department is collecting opinions about the project.
The project on building Van Phuc Bridge has been assigned by the Hanoi People’s Committee to the Project Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Works.
Meanwhile, Hong Ha and Me So bridge projects are part of the Belt Road No 4 project. The road will be 112.8 kilometers in length, running through Hanoi City and Hung Yen, Bac Ninh provinces. It will begin on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway in Hanoi and end on Noi Bai – Ha Long Expressway in Bac Ninh.
Hanoi has submitted a project to the Government to seek investment policy. The Government has appraised the project and is going to report to the National Assembly for approval at the 15th National Assembly’s sessions.
The bridges to be developed under the mode of PPP (private public partnership) include Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao.
The architectural design for Tu Lien Bridge was approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee on March 30, 2020.
Regarding Tran Hung Dao Bridge, there have been results of a competition for architectural design and consultation with public opinion has been completed. The Department of Planning and Architecture is reporting to the Party Civil Affairs of the Hanoi People’s Committee for opinions about the bridge architectural plan.
As for the remaining bridge, including new Thang Long, Ngoc Hoi and Phu Xuyen, the Hanoi Management Board for Transport Works said there has been no document on assigning the unit to implement the projects.
