VietNamNet Bridge - On July 16, the police station at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, seized a taxi driver who overcharged Japanese passengers.
The arrestee is Vu Van Chuyen, a driver of Viet Thanh Taxi. According to the police, Chuyen charged several Japanese passengers up to VND7.5 million ($350) for the 40km trip from Noi Bai Airport to Fortuna Hotel on Lang Ha Street, Hanoi.
Immediately after receiving the passengers’ complaint, Soc Son district police seized the driver for investigation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Hanoi Department of Transport told VietNamNet today that if the driver is determined to overcharge the passengers, he would be fined VND2.5 million ($110).
Manh added that Viet Thanh Taxi had been requested to address its operation otherwise its business license would be revoked. Manh said this is the first time a driver of Viet Thanh Taxi was reported of breaking rules.
An official of Viet Thanh Taxi told VietNamNet that shortly after the incident, according to the company’s regulations, the driver was fired.

Earlier, the Hanoi Department of Transportation and the police discovered 267 vehicles of 85 taxi firms committing charge fraud and breaching regulations on taxi business. Fourteen taxis firms have been proposed for business license withdrawal and suspension.
