A road section crammed with vehicles in the capital city of Hanoi

At a review meeting of the Hanoi government on July 31, director of the city’s transport department Vu Van Vien said that there is no official information concerning whether belt road No. 3 is used to demarcate the areas for toll collection.

To realize the toll collection plan which has been approved by the Hanoi People’s Council, the city is working on determining the areas which vehicles will be charged when entering, vehicles subject to such a kind of tolls, collection methods and related impacts.

The plan has been reported to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance, and the latter has approved the city to build a toll collection scheme.

According to Vien, the department will carefully study the plan and report to the city government before providing any official information.

Meanwhile in HCMC, the municipal department of transport has proposed the city government spend VND250 billion building 34 gates to collect fees from cars entering the central business district, as part of a traffic control scheme.

The 34 tollgates will be built in districts 1 and 3 and in areas bordering districts 5 and 10, with a ring road linking the streets leading to the city center, such as Hoang Sa Street along Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen intersecting with Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, Ba Thang Hai, Le Hong Phong, Ly Thai To, Nguyen Van Cu, Vo Van Kiet and Ton Duc Thang streets.

If approved, the project will be executed during the 2019-2021 period, expecting to reduce traffic congestion in the downtown area, raising the number of public transport users in the city. SGT
