The Hanoi People's Committee has submitted an official proposal to the Prime Minister, requesting approval to begin construction on three key Red River bridges - Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, and Ngoc Hoi - in 2025.
The city proposes that construction of the Tu Lien Bridge and its approach roads commence on May 19, in honor of the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh.
Meanwhile, construction of the Tran Hung Dao and Ngoc Hoi bridges, along with their respective approach roads, is proposed to start between August 19 and September 2.
The municipal government has pledged to ensure that all relevant departments allocate sufficient resources to these three critical projects. The commitment includes meeting high standards of engineering, aesthetics, investment efficiency, and construction timelines - while also aiming to minimize costs and delays.
According to Hanoi Chairman Tran Sy Thanh, accelerating the construction of these Red River bridges is “extremely urgent.” These infrastructure projects will support and synchronize with existing and ongoing developments, such as the transport corridor from Gia Binh Airport (Bac Ninh) to Tu Lien Bridge and the Ba Dinh political center, and will also contribute to the completion of Hanoi's Ring Road 3.5, connecting to Van Giang District in Hung Yen Province.
In addition, the new bridges will enhance interregional traffic connectivity, linking central Hanoi with northern and northeastern areas across the Red River - including Thai Nguyen and Hung Yen provinces.
These three bridges are also expected to play a key role in expanding urban planning to the south of the Red River, easing chronic traffic congestion, and reducing the burden on existing over-capacity bridges such as Thang Long, Nhat Tan, Long Bien, and Vinh Tuy.
Once completed, the Tu Lien Bridge will be a vital link between Hanoi’s city center and the National Exhibition and Convention Center, which is also scheduled to be completed in 2025. The bridge will form part of the broader transport axis connecting Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh to the capital.
