The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) has temporarily relocated 11 households on Giang Van Minh Street following ground subsidence concerns detected during the tunneling process for the Nhon-Hanoi metro line.

MRB reported that the metro project utilizes advanced geotechnical monitoring systems to track ground movements and subsidence levels. These data points are processed both on-site and remotely at the contractor’s headquarters in Italy and South Korea.

Ground movement detected, safety measures activated

On February 27, MRB observed several points exceeding safety thresholds. In response, following strict safety protocols, the project management team decided to relocate 11 additional households from the alley at No. 7 Giang Van Minh Street. This is in addition to four households that had already been relocated under the initial safety plan.

The relocation decision was made after a meeting between project officials and local authorities at the Kim Ma Ward People's Committee.

To assist affected residents, the project will provide each household with financial support of VND 16 million (approximately USD 650) for temporary accommodation and living expenses.

Reinforcement and safety assessment underway

During the relocation period, engineers will conduct structural assessments, reinforce the ground, and implement necessary safety measures to ensure stability. This process is expected to take approximately one month.

Before construction began, the contractor was required to purchase third-party liability insurance. As soon as signs of structural impact were detected, the insurance provider initiated damage assessments to process compensation for affected households if necessary.

MRB has committed to continued close monitoring of the situation, working transparently with residents and relevant authorities to ensure safety and address concerns efficiently.
