On January 17, the Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) inaugurated three new electric bus routes - numbers 05, 39, and 47 - as part of the city’s initiative to adopt environmentally friendly public transportation.

Nguyen Thanh Nam, General Director of Transerco, stated that the corporation implemented the conversion to electric buses in line with directives from the Hanoi Party Committee and the People's Committee. This rapid transition aims to align with the city’s broader green development strategy.

The launch introduced 46 electric buses, setting the stage for future expansions in sustainable transport infrastructure and supporting Hanoi’s goals of digital transformation and environmental sustainability.

At the inauguration ceremony, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, emphasized that traffic congestion and environmental pollution remain significant challenges for the capital.

He noted that developing a public transportation system utilizing green energy is a critical part of Hanoi’s solution. The city aims to convert its entire fleet of buses to green or clean energy by 2030.

During the event, Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh and other city leaders participated in a ride aboard the new electric buses, underscoring their commitment to the initiative.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen urged the Department of Transport to promptly advise the city on mechanisms and policies to support businesses in investing in green energy vehicles. He also emphasized the importance of synchronized infrastructure development, including charging stations, to facilitate the transition.

Hanoi aspires to not only achieve a full conversion to green energy buses by 2030 but also to enhance service quality and promote an eco-friendly public transport image. This effort aims to encourage greater adoption of public transportation among residents and contribute to the city’s sustainable development.
