Such districts as Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Lien, Cau Giay, My Duc, Chuong My and Ung Hoa reported fingertip-sized hailstones, with the adverse weather pattern lasting for about 20 minutes.

As the hailstones were small, they did not cause any damage, according to local residents.

In addition, strong winds and heavy rain brought down many big trees, disrupting traffic in various places in the inner capital,

Meteorologists warned about flooding as thunderstorms are forecast to strike the capital on April 21.

Elsewhere, hailstones were also reported in several other northern mountainous localities, including Hoa Binh province, on April 20 evening.

According to meteorologists, the change of seasons in northern Vietnam often causes extreme weather phenomena, including hailstones, flashfloods and landslides, especially in mountainous areas.
