Jordanian Health Ministry announced on Sunday that a 26-year-old Jordanian man died in the northern city of Irbid after suffering from the H1N1 influenza strain known as swine flu.

"The victim was admitted to the Princess Basma Hospital three days ago suffering from acute pneumonia," Jordan's Health Minister Abdullatif Wreikat told state-run Petra news agency.

"Lab and clinical tests later revealed that the man was infected with H1N1 virus," Wreikat said.

H1N1 influenza has killed at least 25 people in Jordan in recent years.

In 2009, H1N1 epidemic erupted in Mexico and spread into a worldwide pandemic that caused as least 17 deaths.
