VN, Mongolia increase cooperation in various fields

The Vietnam-Mongolia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation convened for the 15th time on March 18, aimed at further strengthening and increasing cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and Mongolian Minister of Industry and Agriculture Kh.Battulga briefed each other on the political and socio-economic situation in either country.

The two ministers praised both sides’ cooperation in many fields. However, cooperation results had not yet met the two sides’ potential, especially in sectors that they have strengths, including agriculture, they said.

They reviewed the results of agreements signed at the last meeting.

Their joint-venture projects on veterinary medicine, animal feed production and organic vegetable farming (in Mongolia), and pig, poultry and high-yield dairy and cattle farming (in Vietnam) were also put on the table for discussion.

Phat said Vietnam could supply rice, fruit, tea and sugar and other farm produce to Mongolia, and wishes to import animal meat, tanned leather and wool from the country.

Kh.Battulga proposed Vietnamese experts go to his country and select enterprises that could meet Vietnam’s requirements in animal meat production and others.

Top legislator’s European tour opens up good cooperative prospects

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s official visit to three European countries has opened up new opportunities for cooperation, affirmed Head of the NA Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang.

In an interview granted to the press after Chairman Hung concluded his tour of Russia, Germany and Poland on March 17, Hang affirmed that the legislative chief’s visit was a success and consolidated cooperation with the three countries in a range of areas, first of all in law making, especially building the constitution.

Vietnam and the three countries have also agreed to coordinate closer in supervising the implementation of their respective bilateral cooperation agreements and projects, with a view to raising the efficiency of their diplomatic, political, socio-cultural and economic cooperation.

They agreed to increase coordination in viewpoints and support for each other on international forums, particularly regarding sensitive issues of mutual concerns.

Hang noted that in Russia, which established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam last year, Hung and the host reached consensus on bolstering economic cooperation, especially between Russia’s Far Eastern and Vietnam’s central region.

Regarding Germany which has just established a strategic partnership with Vietnam, Hung’s visit has a special meaning as it is the first official visit made by a high-ranking national assembly leader between the two countries over the past 20 years.

Meanwhile, the NA Chairman’s visit to Poland, a traditional friend, has resulted in agreement by both sides to work to build a strategic partnership, thus facilitating bilateral all-round cooperation.

During the tour, the top legislator met with overseas Vietnamese in the three countries. The OV community have contributed many opinions to the draft amendments of the 1992 Constitution, particularly policies towards the community.

Deputy PM: Overseas Vietnamese - integral part of nation

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called on the Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association to play a greater role as an important bridge connecting the overseas Vietnamese community with nearly 90 million people at home.

Phuc made the call at the 3 rd Congress of the Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association held on March 17 in Hanoi with the participation of over 200 delegates and prominent guests including Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Lam and Vice Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Dang The Hung.

He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community, which numbers about 5 million, is an integral part of the Vietnamese nation.

The Deputy PM spoke highly of the achievements the association has reapped in its previous term, saying that this will serve as a solid foundation for the association to move forwards further development in the new period.

At the event, the association’s Secretary General Nguyen Lan Trung highlighted the association’s effective implementation of its main political task of popularising the government’s policies among the overseas Vietnamese community over the past five years.

The association, which now comprises of more than 300 members, has set up contacts with hundreds of overseas Vietnamese visiting the home country to receive their opinions and discuss how they can contribute to the development of the fatherland.

On this occasion, several individuals and groups were honoured with the President’s Order on National Unity and certificates of merits of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs for their outstanding contributions to the cause.

The delegates elected former Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu Binh as the president of the association for the 2012-2017 term.
