VietNamNet Bridge – Chess Grand Master Le Quang Liem could not maintain his advantage of winning the first leg of the Chess World Cup’s third round against Russia’s Alexander Grischuk and was defeated by his opponent in the return leg on August 18.

Holding the black pieces Liem was in a defensive position to come under sustained attack from Grischuk.

His solid defending system was broken in the 100th move, enabling the Russian player to wisely exploit his mistakes and ended the match after 154 moves in six hour and a half-the longest one in the tournament.

The 1-1 draw after two legs forced them to enter a tiebreak scheduled for the night of August 19.

The winner of the match will then face Russian defending champion Peter Svidler in the next round.
