Meritorious Artist Quoc Nghiep and his brother Quoc Co, who is widely known as Giang Brothers, have accepted an invitation from the Guinness World Records Organization to go to Milan, Italy to set a new record on February 1-7, 2023.
Acrobat Quoc Nghiep told VietNamNet: "When we accepted the invitation, we were very hesitant because the preparation time was too short. We appreciate the respect of the Guinness World Records for us. They recognize the record of head-to-head balancing act as the signature brand for Giang Brothers from Vietnam".
He said that the upcoming record does not pose pressure on health but requires high level of technique. The Giang brothers will be blindfolded to go up and down 10 stairs of 40 cm wide.
Total time for the performance is one minute. It is difficult because the 40 cm wide stair is quite small, so Quoc Co will have to move accurately even though he is blindfolded.
Giang Brothers will start practicing together, using stairs meeting standards of the Guinness World Records organization from January 15 before leaving for Milan in early February.
While waiting for the stairs, the two brothers are practicing walking blindfolded on flat blocks of 40 cm wide. "Each stair is 18 cm apart so the total is 1m8 for ten stairs. We have to calculate how to withstand the pressure in 1 minute of moving," Quoc Nghiep said.
After a fall occurred while practicing for the Britain's Got Talent in 2018, Quoc Nghiep's injury has not completely healed, especially the neck. Quoc Nghiep's health has been better recently, so he can perform with his brother. The brothers share a belief to set a new world record.
"Quoc Co and I want to set a new world record for the last time before we end our elite career. We want to do something more for Vietnam’s circus," Quoc Nghiep said.
Quoc Co, 38, and Quoc Nghiep, 33, are currently working in the Ho Chi Minh City Circus Association.
They have both been presented with the Meritorious Artist title for their outstanding contributions to the development of Vietnamese circus.
In December, 2016, they set a Guinness World Record with their head-to-head balancing act by scaling 90 stairs in just 52 seconds on the steps of Girona Cathedral in Spain.
In 2018, they finished fourth in Britain's Got Talent, a prestigious competition where they received a standing ovation from the impressed British audiences.
The famous acrobat brothers continued to set a world record which participated in a head-to-head balancing in Catalonia, Spain, back in 2021.
