Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction has officially approved the revised development plan for Gia Binh International Airport for the 2021–2030 period, with a long-term vision to 2050.
Under the newly approved plan, Gia Binh Airport will serve as a dual-use international airport, catering to both civilian and defense purposes.
Between 2021 and 2030, Gia Binh International Airport is designated as a 4E-grade facility, with a planned annual capacity of approximately 5 million passengers and 250,000 tons of cargo.
The airport will accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing B777, B787, Airbus A350, A321, and other specialized or government aircraft.
By 2050, the airport is projected to maintain its 4E-grade classification, but its capacity will increase significantly to 15 million passengers and 1 million tons of cargo per year, continuing to support the same range of aircraft.
On December 10, 2024, construction began on the Gia Binh Airport project in Xuan Lai commune and Gia Binh town, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province.
The airport spans approximately 125 hectares and is located about 40 kilometers from Noi Bai International Airport.
Originally intended to support flight training and combat readiness for the Vietnamese People’s Public Security Air Force, the project was later approved for transformation into a major international airport in northern Vietnam. It is expected to ease some of the passenger and cargo load currently handled by Noi Bai Airport.
