A German night featuring performances by local and overseas Vietnamese artists will be held at the Opera House in downtown HCMC on Tuesday night on the occasion of a Vietnam visit by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany.

The German Consulate General in HCMC is the organizer of the event, which is intended to highlight strong cultural ties between Germany and Vietnam.

The show will start with a performance of artists from the Teh Dar Show directed by Tuan Le, a popular Vietnamese German director, who has been known for A O Show and My Village.

Vietnamese singer Ho Trung Dung will then take the stage to sing two pieces, “So geil Berlin” and “Yeu Nhu Ngay Moi Bat Dau” (love like a new day that has come). Dung is a graduate from the German faculty of the HCMC University of Social Sciences (USSH) and Humanities and spent a year at the University of Mannheim. In his career, Dung has won many awards like “Best Newcomer” in 2013 and “Most Popular Singer in Vietnam” in 2014. Aside from singing he is a lecturer at the USSH and works for some charities.

Vietnam Idol 2015 winner Nguyen Trong Hieu will perform his latest song “Buoc Den Ben Em/Step to you” and a special medley of German songs with traditional music artist Trung Luong who came second at Vietnam’s Got Talent in 2016.

The next singer will be Lam Vissay, a German singer and actor of Vietnamese-Laotian descent. Vissay will play two songs, “Die Moritat von Mackie Messer” and “Cello”. Vissay worked in Germany, Vietnam and Los Angeles and now lives in Hanoi.

The show is wrapped up by a performance by Trung Luong via German song “99 Luftballons” and a duet with Trong Hieu in two songs “Atemlos” and “Auf uns” with traditional Vietnamese instrument dan nguyet (two-chord guitar).
