On December 6, General Secretary To Lam welcomed international scientists and experts visiting Vietnam to attend the 2024 VinFuture Awards ceremony.

General Secretary To Lam warmly congratulated the distinguished scientists, particularly those recognized for outstanding contributions in artificial intelligence, materials science, environmental research, and medical applications. He emphasized that the VinFuture Prize represents not only one of the most prestigious annual scientific awards but also Vietnam’s spirit of learning, global ambition, and commitment to innovation.

“The VinFuture Prize is a testament to Vietnam’s aspiration to integrate global knowledge, positioning the country as a leader in science, technology, and innovation,” the General Secretary noted.

During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam reiterated Vietnam’s vision and commitment to becoming a modern industrialized nation with high-middle-income status by 2030 and achieving developed, high-income status by 2045.

Vietnam has identified science, technology, and innovation as the top national priorities, pivotal for breakthroughs in productivity, quality, and efficiency. These factors are seen as crucial for enhancing competitiveness, achieving sustainable development, and capitalizing on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

On behalf of the VinFuture Awards Council, Professor Richard Henry Friend, Chair of the VinFuture Prize Council, expressed gratitude for General Secretary To Lam’s special attention to international scientists. He acknowledged the global stature of the VinFuture Prize and the practical significance of the research contributions recognized this year.

Professor Friend emphasized the importance of fostering global collaboration and inspiring creativity and passion among younger generations to address global challenges and improve lives worldwide.

International scientists praised Vietnam's strides in digital transformation and its application of advanced technologies across various critical sectors. They highlighted opportunities for partnerships between global tech corporations and Vietnamese enterprises in research and innovation.

The scientists shared ideas and recommendations on building AI ecosystems, advancing energy transitions, developing green and digital economies, and enhancing R&D capabilities. They also emphasized the need for human resource training and technological applications in agriculture, transportation, and other sectors, aiming to position Vietnam as a regional and global leader in emerging technologies.

General Secretary To Lam commended the meaningful initiative and efforts behind the annual VinFuture Awards. He expressed appreciation for the contributions of leading international scientists and experts in fostering connections and promoting collaboration between Vietnam and global research institutions, universities, and technology corporations.

He encouraged the experts to continue supporting Vietnam in:

Advising on policies for emerging technologies and strategic investments.
Training high-quality human resources for semiconductor and AI industries.
Developing innovation hubs and high-performance computing centers.
Connecting Vietnam with leading global tech companies and international markets.

General Secretary To Lam reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to advancing science and technology while fostering deeper global partnerships to unlock the nation’s potential in high-tech fields.
