Video: Embassy of Canada in Vietnam

The G4 ambassadors to Vietnam, representing Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland, delivered a heartwarming Tet performance of the song “Năm qua đã làm gì” (What Did We Do Last Year?) by musician Bui Cong Nam.

Canadian Ambassador Shawn Steil, New Zealand Ambassador Caroline Beresford, Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Solbakken, and Swiss Ambassador Thomas Gass joined forces with the Green Wind Choir to perform the song entirely in Vietnamese, demonstrating impressive proficiency in the language.

The video, filmed at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, opens with iconic scenes of Hanoi during Tet: Hoan Kiem Lake, vibrant peach blossoms, kumquat trees, and bustling streets adorned in festive red.

A message of harmony and humanity

For years, the G4 ambassadors have used Tet as an opportunity to share heartfelt messages with the Vietnamese people, emphasizing cultural harmony and mutual understanding.

In this year’s video, the ambassadors hope that the music and emotions conveyed in their performance inspire a sense of unity in diversity.

In previous years, the G4 ambassadors celebrated Tet by visiting and supporting individuals in Vietnam’s most vulnerable communities.

Their efforts included extending Lunar New Year wishes to street vendors, informal workers, and women in labor-intensive jobs.

They also visited the Maison Chance center in Ho Chi Minh City, which supports people with disabilities, and Hope Box, a Hanoi-based shelter for victims of gender-based violence.

The song: A Tet favorite

Năm qua đã làm gì has become a beloved tune among Vietnamese youth during year-end celebrations.

Performed by popular singer Noo Phuoc Thinh, the song’s catchy and relatable lyrics reflect on the passing year and the excitement of welcoming a new one.

The G4 ambassadors’ performance added a unique and touching dimension to this familiar Tet anthem.
