They are divided into two groups - national champions and No. 1 seed Thai Son Nam are in Group B, while runners-up Sanna Khanh Hoa are the favourite in Group A.

The teams will compete in a round robin format with the two best teams advancing to the semi-finals.

Sanna Khanh Hoa will play Thai Son Bac in the opening match.

According to Tran Anh Tu, president of the HCM City Football Federation, the teams were allowed to hire foreign players. This rule was expected to push the quality of the tournament.

Tu, who is also the boss of defending champions Thai Son Nam, said his managing board had contacted two foreigners who had played under his team’s jersey at the last event, and also introduced some players to test their skills with the Sanna Khanh Hoa team.

The tournament, which is also known as the LS Cup, is free for fans in the group round at the Thai Son Nam and Phu Tho gymnasiums, but tickets are needed for the final and the third-place play-off match, which will be telecast live on the HTV channel.
