The two tiny babies have received free treatment and the local authorities’ attention after several local newspapers wrote about them.

Dinh Van K’re is a five-year-old boy from Go Da village of Son Ba commune, Son Ha district and Dinh Van Khit is a 9-year-old boy from Hang Gon village, Di Lang town, also in Son Ha district.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Phu, Head of the Pediatric Ward of the Quang Ngai Hospital, said that at first, the children would be treated with multi-micronutrient supplementation for improving their resistance and nutritional supplements. After that, they will be moved to larger medical centers in HCM City and Hanoi for treatment by leading experts in the country.

Dr. Phu said through examinations, doctors did not detect any diseases and the kids did not grow normally due to chromosomal disorders or disorders of growth hormone in the pituitary gland.

Mr. Dinh Van An, 30, K’Re’s father said he married Ms. Dinh Thi Pia, 25, in 2006. They are cousins. An is about 1.62 m tall and Pia is 1.4 m tall. In 2007, they had the first son, who develops normally. At present, he is about 90cm tall and weighs 13kg. In 2009, the couple gave birth to the 2nd son, K’re. K’re was born prematurely, at the 8th month. He was 600gr in weight.

Mr. Dinh K’Tenh, Khit’s father, said that Khit was born when his father was 57 years old. Khit was only 800gr at birth. “During the past 9 years, he ate little and did not grow much. His 13-year-old brother develops normally.”
