The HCM City Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) said two trains would arrive at the Khanh Hoi Port in District 4 on November 28 and the other two on December 5.

These trains will be transported later to the Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City.

With the upcoming arrival of the four trains, the metro line No.1 in HCM City will have 11 of the 17 trains.

The metro line No.1 has 17 trains manufactured in Japan, including three-car trains capable of carrying 930 passengers. The trains will travel at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour on elevated sections and 80 kilometers per hour underground.

The first metro line project in the city has over VND43.7 trillion in investment. It has three underground stations and 11 elevated ones.

The 19.7-km line No.1 is the first of at least six lines to be built in the city and aims to ease traffic congestion in its north-eastern gateway.

The project has faced obstacles linked to contract procedures and the disbursement of official development assistance capital. The project is now 88 per cent complete and is set to reach 91 per cent at the end of 2021.

The construction has also suffered delays, and MAUR said recently the work would be completed in late 2023 or early 2024 after the latest delay caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Completion of HCM City’s Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro delayed to 2024
