
Since the start of the year, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission have disciplined four high-ranking officials under the management of the Central Government.
On March 25, the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Waste Prevention held a meeting to discuss and review the implementation of the conclusions made by General Secretary To Lam after the 27th meeting of the committee.
The Standing Committee praised party committees, political organizations, and functional agencies for their diligent and coordinated efforts to strictly implement the General Secretary’s conclusions.
Anti-corruption and anti-waste measures have been carried out thoroughly and consistently, maintaining a no-exceptions policy, and increasingly meeting the requirements of Party building and socio-economic development.
Legal actions and convictions
Since the 27th meeting, judicial bodies have prosecuted and investigated 1,132 cases involving 2,188 defendants, brought 1,201 cases involving 2,373 defendants to trial, and conducted first-instance trials for 756 cases involving 1,672 defendants on charges related to corruption, economic violations, and official misconduct.
For cases under the direct oversight of the Steering Committee, authorities have initiated one new case, prosecuted an additional 25 defendants in seven existing cases, completed investigations into three cases involving 76 defendants, and concluded supplementary investigations into one case with seven defendants.
Furthermore, four cases involving 46 defendants have been prosecuted, and three cases involving 40 defendants have been brought to first-instance trial. Three appellate trials have also been completed, involving 149 defendants.
Notably, investigations have concluded in the case involving Phuc Son Group, and indictments have been issued in cases related to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Vietnam Tea Corporation, and Thai Duong Group.
The first-instance and appellate trials for several major cases have been completed as planned, including cases related to the Saigon - Dai Ninh project (Lam Dong), Phan Thiet beach tourism urban area (Binh Thuan), Vietnam Register, and Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Center (VNCERT), under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The Central Inspection Commission and local inspection agencies have rigorously examined and disciplined party organizations and members involved in corruption cases linked to AIC Company, Phuc Son Group, and Thuan An Group as directed by the Steering Committee.
As a result, disciplinary measures have been recommended for 381 party organizations and 819 party members, including 57 high-ranking officials under central management. Since the start of the year, four high-ranking officials have been disciplined.
Recovering assets and addressing public project issues
Since the establishment of the Steering Committee, more than $4.2 billion (102,040 billion VND) has been recovered.
Authorities have also identified and addressed issues with 1,315 public investment projects and public-private partnership (PPP) projects facing difficulties and risks of wastefulness.
Specific attention has been given to the prolonged construction issues at the Bach Mai Hospital (phase 2) and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital (phase 2), with a commitment to operationalize them within the year. Efforts have also been made to resolve challenges in connecting and operating renewable energy projects and flood control systems in Ho Chi Minh City.
Law enforcement agencies have been actively investigating cases of wastefulness and financial misconduct, such as the case of "Receiving Bribes and Violating Bidding Regulations with Serious Consequences" at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hoang Dan Company, as well as the case of "Violating Regulations on State Asset Management Causing Loss and Waste" at Vietnam Cement Corporation (VICEM) and related entities.
Efforts to enhance inspection, asset valuation, and recovery processes are ongoing, with judicial authorities having finalized 12 inspection and valuation conclusions since the last meeting.
Civil judgment enforcement agencies have recovered an additional $245 million (6,000 billion VND), raising the total recovered amount since the Steering Committee's inception to $4.2 billion (102,040 billion VND).
Party committees and political organizations have proactively revised and improved institutional frameworks, addressing gaps and bottlenecks to support socio-economic development and strengthen anti-corruption and anti-waste measures.
