VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnamese designer Vo Viet Chung introduced his new collection "Cochinchina's Beauty" at the "Couture Fashion Week" in New York, USA, from September 5 to 7. Chung said the show attracted many American viewers.
Chung attended the event at the invitation of Mr. Andres Aquino,
the founder and producer of the "Couture Fashion Week in New York". The
event took place at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, gathering well-known designers in the world, celebrities in various fields, and top models.
Chung went to the US in early September to work with models, make-up and hair artists in preparation for the show on September 6.
Chung’s “Cochinchina’s Beauty” collection was launched a year ago. The collection includes 30 designs made of mac nua - a traditional material of Vietnam.
Chung said the material has been used for a long time. It is nylon dyed with mac nua seeds.
Chung was the first Vietnamese designer to win a UNESCO award for helping preserve Lanh My A, a silk fabric produced in south Vietnam.
During his work to restore the southern traditional material, he discovered the mac nua tree and used it to dye the Lanh My A silk. He decided to publicise the mac nua material for his creativity. The black colour mac nua material is shine and water-resistance.
Chung combined costume characteristics from the north, centre and south of Vietnam. The collection goes with about 20,000 two-year old serial pearls, worth over VND10 billion (US$500,000).
Chung has attended many fashion weeks in Germany, the UK, Malaysia, and most recently appeared at the Vietnamese Cultural Festival in San Jose in the US.
Chung will participate in a fashion week in France this month and in Singapore next month.
