VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam have retained their No1 position in Southeast Asia, ranking 134th despite their recent loss to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to the February rankings announced by the world football governing body FIFA, Thailand came in second, followed by the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The 1-2 loss to the UAE did not affect Vietnam’s position in the rankings, while other teams in Southeast Asia suffered bitter defeats at the Asian Cup qualifiers, with Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia outplayed 1-3, 1-4, 0-2 and 0-1 by Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, and Iraq, respectively.
In Asia, Japan stayed first despite a 7-notch tumble. Other strong teams such as Australia and the Republic of Korea had lower ranks compared to the previous month, while Arab Saudi and Kuwait jumped 10 notches on the standings.
On the global scale, Spain, Germany and Argentina took the lead with their positions remaining unchanged. England climbed up two notches to fourth after their victory over Brazil in the recent friendly.
