The national football governing body quoted a special communiqué from the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front's Central Committee that Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng passed away on July 19, 2024, at the Central Military Hospital 108, in Hà Nội.

The Communist Party's Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front's Central Committee have decided to hold the funeral of the late Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng with national etiquette.

During the two-day national mourning period on July 25 and 26, national flags will be flown at half-mast at State offices and public places, and recreational and entertainment activities will be suspended.

VFF leaders decided that tournaments including the women's National Football Championship, National U21 Championship's qualifying round, National U17 Championship, and National Girls' U16 Championship will be temporary suspended from July 20, 2024 until further notice.

In addition to football, some other sports activities such as the Northside Pro-Am Basketball Championship 2024 and Muay Thai Rampage x Road To ONE: Việt Nam's semi-finals are also delayed.
