VietNamNet Bridge –The construction of a flyover at O Cho Dua junction in Dong Da District must harmonise with an ancient archaelogical site, said Ha Noi People's Committee Chairman Nguyen The Thao.

Thao was speaking yesterday, April 25, after a series of discussions with government agencies over recent public concern that the construction might conflict with the 1,000 year old structure, Dan Xa Tac.

The structure was built in 1048 by the Ly Dynasty as a platform for worshipping Heaven and Earth (with Man in between). It was classed as a national heritage site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2007.

Thao said the flyover, part of the city's transport development plan until 2020, had twice been approved by the Prime Minister.

The project investor, Key Construction Projects Management Board, came up with several design options in an attempt not to clash with the archaeological site, Thao said.
The plan was approved by the city's Council for Architecture and Planning and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Taking into consideration different opinions from historical, cultural and building experts and the public, Thao told the investor to ensure the huge concrete structure preserves the integrity of Dan Xa Tac site.

They were also instructed to collect more opinions from experts and the public so that the final concept could be submitted to the municipal People's Committee for approval next month.

The new plans will be made public before being implemented.

The flyover, linking Xa Dan and Hoang Cau streets, will be 500 metres long and have four lanes. It will cost about VND766 billion (US$36.4 million). If approved, construction will start this year and complete by 2015.
