The five were confirmed by the HCM City Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in 72 samples taken from COVID-19-infected people in hospitals in the city between January 31 and February 2, 2022.
These include one person from the central province of Nghe An, one returning to HCM City from Dong Thap Province after the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, and three residents of HCM City.
All five were fully vaccinated against the virus.
Four are suffering from mild fever and sore throats, while one is asymptomatic, but all are in stable health conditions, the southern city’s health authorities noted.

To date, the city has logged 125 Omicron cases, including 115 imported cases, and 10 in the community (the previous five local cases earlier in January 2022 were connected to a Vietnamese woman returning from overseas).
No one is in serious condition.
