VietNamNet Bridge - The Forbes Magazine has published the Forbes Global 2000 list of the largest and most powerful companies in the world. The Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) ranks 1,764th. In terms of profitability, the bank ranks 1,682th and 874th for property.
Vietinbank financial report shows that by the end of 2012, its total assets reached VND503.5 trillion ($25.17 billion), up 9.4 percent compared with 2011; pre-tax profit was VND8.213 trillion, 9 percent over the target. With the number, Vietinbank led the Vietnamese banking sector in 2012 for profit.
This year's list of Forbes has the participation of 63 countries, three less than last year. America - the world's number one economy - contributes up to 543 companies, followed by Japan with 251 and China 136. This is the first year since 2004 the number of Chinese companies in this list does not increase.
Global 2000 records 11 countries with only one company, including New Zealand, Czech Republic and Vietnam.
The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has overtaken the US oil giant Exxon Mobil for the first time to be the world's largest company. The China Construction Bank (CCB) also jumps up by 11 spots to the second place. However, Germany's E.ON has the highest promotion with over 300 grades to rank 99th this year.
The criteria used by Forbes include sales, profits, assets and market value. In total, the 2,000 companies in the list achieved revenue of $38 trillion, $2.43 trillion of profit, $159 trillion of assets and $39 trillion of the market value. The total number of employees is 87 million people worldwide. All figures are up from last year, except for profit.
Forbes highlights Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for outstanding growth in the year. ExxonMobil is the most profitable company. Apple is the most valuable company. Walmart is the championship for revenue and Fannie Mae takes the lead for assets.
