VietNamNet Bridge – According to the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre, a tropical depression in the East Sea has strengthened becoming the first storm of the year.
In the north-eastern part of the East Sea, wind power near the centre of the storm is estimated at 9 and 10 category resulting in rough seas.
Also, due to the influence of the southwest monsoon, coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, and the middle area and southern part of the East Sea including Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) will see heavy showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 7 and 8 category.
At 4 pm on June 15, the center of the storm was situated at 21.8 0 N latitude and 116.7 0 E longitude, 290 km southeast from Hong Kong (China). The strongest winds near the eye of the storm were 62-74 km per hour up to 10 category.
During the next 24 hours, the storm will be moving north, around 10km per hour and is expected to strike the southeaster part of China’s Guangdong Province at a speed of 62-74 km per hour by 4 pm on June 16.
Over the next day or two, the storm may change its direction to move towards the middle of the North and North East at 10-15km per hour and will quickly weaken into a low tropical depression area.
