A retired police general has opened to the public the first private library in Vietnam which archives and exhibits over 10,000 books, journals, and publications about the Vietnam War, the Government Portal reported.

The documents and objects archived in the library have been collected by the former Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Huong and his friends.
Most of them are written by English by American authors who are politicians, historians, governmental officials and military commanders, who had studied about the wars in Vietnam.
The library is a rich and precious documentary resource providing different perspectives for researchers and people, who are interested in the history of the resistance war of the Vietnamese people while getting a better understanding of the opponents’ decisions and calculations during the Vietnam War.
Besides, the library also showcases digitalized maps of Vietnam and Southeast Asia drawn from the ancient times and in the modern era, two cartographic collections of Vietnam’s territorial organization drawn by the US’s Cadastral Agency and Army in the wartime, 100 posters depicting the world’ support for the struggle of the Vietnamese people for peace and independence; stamp collections issued by Vietnam and other countries on the occasion of Vietnam's major historical events.
The library has also displayed collected artifacts, which are personal belongings and military equipment of Vietnamese combatants taken by American troops in the battlefields, providing a glimpse of the tradition and great sacrifices of Vietnamese people and soldiers in wartime.
In the coming time, the library will cooperate with other agencies to produce some films about the war as well as showcase the war objects to help the families of missing Vietnamese soldiers find their loved ones. Hanoitimes
